Mitsubishi Brings Manufacturing to America

Beginning in early 2009, MC Machinery Systems will manufacture all machines in the Mitsubishi Waterjet line in the United States. The company says its new waterjet facility in Wixom, Michigan, will help control costs, allowing the machines to be priced more competitively. Additionally, the company says that facility’s close proximity to its corporate headquarters in Chicago will ensure better quality control and enable faster upgrades and modifications to machine design.

Responding to the current economic climate, UK-based machine tool manufacturer 600 Group has recently implemented a series of administrative changes to achieve operational efficiency throughout the organization. The Group, which includes brands such as Colchester-Harrison, Pratt Burnerd, Gamet Bearings and Electrox, has moved its headquarters, reorganized its management structure and introduced a range of new technologies. More than 96,000 visitors attended the 26th edition of Italy’s biennial machine tool show, Bi-Mu, from October 3 through 7 at the Fiera Milano exhibition center in Milan. While attendance remained roughly the same as the previous edition, this figure is “not only positive, but also rewarding, considering the particularly turbulent context,” says Giancarlo Losma, president of Ucimu, the Italian machine tools, robots and automation manufacturer’s association. Metris Inaugurates New Facility

Metris has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Manasssas, Virginia, centralizing production of all its large-volume metrology products. The new facility merges two former offices that originally served as headquarters to ArcSecond and MetricVision, respectively, before Metris acquired both firms in recent years. The 30,000-square-foot facility houses 60 employees and is located in Prince William Technology Park on Innovation Drive.
