Meet the Team Behind Modern Machine Shop Media
Bryce Ellis has been working with exhibitors and advertising customers with Gardner Business Media since 2011. He began his career as an Exhibitor Advertising Manager with Map Your Show where he worked with exhibitors to maximize their investment at tradeshows. In 2014, he became District Manager with Gardner Business Media’s metalworking brands where he worked with manufacturing suppliers in the Midwest to achieve their marketing goals and objectives. In 2019, Bryce was promoted to his current position as Publisher of Modern Machine Shop. Bryce received his BA in Communications from the University of Cincinnati.
Brent Donaldson is Editor-in-Chief for Modern Machine Shop, where he is oversees the brand’s writing staff as well as day-to-day management of editorial operations. Brent also serves as a columnist and feature writer and reports regularly about his travels to machine shops, trade shows and conferences around the country and internationally. Brent is also co-host, producer and editor of Modern Machine Shop’s documentary-style podcast, “Made in the USA.”
Before joining Gardner, Brent was editor-in-chief of Northern Kentucky University Magazine — the same university from which he received his journalism degree in 2005. Brent previously served as associate editor for Cincinnati Magazine, and is the recipient of two Ohio Excellence in Journalism awards for feature news writing, Cincinnati Society of Professional Journalists awards, and more than 40 individual awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for writing and editorial.
Fun fact: Brent was the last journalist ever to interview Evel Knievel.
Julia Hider graduated from Ohio State University in 2014 with a B.A. in journalism, and joined Gardner Business Media as an assistant editor with Modern Machine Shop in 2017. She has served as an editor on several Gardner Business Media brands, including Production Machining and Additive Manufacturing Media. She is currently a senior editor for Modern Machine Shop as covering robotics for all Gardner Business Media brands.
Chris Pasion is the managing editor of Modern Machine Shop. He graduated with an M.A. in professional writing from the University of Cincinnati and joined Gardner Business Media as an editorial assistant in July 2021. He contributed as a writer to MMS’ sister brand, Products Finishing, before joining the MMS team full time in August 2022. In this position, he coordinates the publication of the print magazine, publishes news and product releases to MMS’ website and copyedits columns and other written content for the brand.
In addition to working as an editor, Chris is a freelance photographer in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
Evan Doran is an associate editor with Modern Machine Shop. He joined Gardner Business Media in August 2020, writing for several of its publications before officially joining the MMS team in 2021. He graduated from Miami University in 2018 with a B.A. in Creative Writing and Professional Writing. He also holds a graduate certificate in Professional Writing from the University of Cincinnati.
Eli Plaskett joined the Modern Machine Shop team in the fall of 2017. He is a native of Youngstown, Ohio and graduated from Ohio University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and English. After college, he wrote freelance and traveled the country before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio.
He is currently Senior Associate Editor at Modern Machine Shop and Content Writer and Designer at Gardner Business Media, the magazine’s parent company. He writes and edits blog posts and feature-length stories for the magazine as well as for its sister publications.
His articles include: Building Capacity Through Automation, Putting People First: a Profitable Strategy, and A Job Shop Approach to Automation.
Cara Ready is the digital editor for Modern Machine Shop & Production Machining. Previously, she was an implementation consultant at a digital marketing agency and interned at CMG Ohio.
Cara has a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication with a minor in Sociology from Wright State University.
