Zeiss Upgrades CMMs to Support Sustainability
IMTS 2024: Zeiss highlights upgrades to its Prismo family of CMMs, designed to reduce power consumption and support sustainability.
Zeiss showcases upgrades to its Prismo flagship family of precise CMMs, designed to increase sustainability, safety, ergonomics, flexibility and productivity while also achieving quick speed and high accuracy.
Recent Zeiss Prismo features that are said to support sustainability include Zeiss AirSaver, Zeiss PowerSaver and the C99m Controller. When the system is not in use, Zeiss AirSaver automatically turns off the compressed air and Zeiss PowerSaver disconnects the CMM from the power supply, which can reduce energy consumption to zero during downtime. Additionally, the C99m Controller can reduce power consumption by 64% compared to the original Zeiss Prismo. With these features, Zeiss Prismo aims to increase resource savings and contribute to environmentally friendly manufacturing operations.
The C99m Controller enables the compatibility of both the Zeiss Rotos roughness sensor and the Zeiss LineScan optical sensor, which can give the operator greater flexibility to adjust to project requirements as necessary.
Zeiss Prismo updates are also said to improve workplace safety and wellness. The control panel holder can improve ergonomics by reducing the distance between the operator and the measuring area, which can enable the simple loading of heavy parts and more convenient control panel storage. Safety laser scanners automatically reduce speed when the presence of people and objects is detected in the safety area. The adjustable side covers also ensure workplace safety by mitigating the risk of crushing by reducing the gap between moving parts to under 4 mm.
With four performance accelerators, Zeiss Prismo can increase efficiency and decrease measurement time. Zeiss Vast Rotary Table Axis (ZVRA) is capable of saving time by reducing axis definition from six single-point measurements to one continuous movement. Zeiss Vast navigator automatically optimizes scanning speed, reducing user error while supporting consistent accuracy, according to the company. Zeiss Calypso Vast can also decrease the time spent on single-point measurement probing, which can increase measurement speed by as much as 25%.
The Zeiss Calypso pallet optimizer is also said to increase efficiency and save time by simultaneously changing the measurement strategy from probe-by-probe to feature-by-feature for an entire pallet. This benefit can also decrease costs by reducing the need for styli changes.
