Tsugami Lathe, Vertical Machining Center Boost Machining Efficiency
IMTS 2024: Tsugami America showcases a multifunction sliding headstock lathe with a B-axis tool spindle, as well as a universal vertical machining center for rapid facing, drilling and tapping.
Tsugami America unveils the Tsugami SS20MH-III-5AX, a multifunction sliding headstock lathe with a B-axis tool spindle, created for the medical, automotive, aerospace, general industries and more. This 20-mm platform can make complex-shaped workpieces with 3D curved surfaces using the five-axis simultaneous control and Capto C3, 30 position tool magazine, all from bar stock or blanks. The SS20MH-III-5AX is built for high accuracy; flexibility can be increased with the ability to run with a guide bushing or in chucker mode. Linear scales and automatic tool presetter are included as standard.
Additionally, attendees can see the SS20MH-III-5AX in action, paired with an integrated solution cart by Tsugami America Automation. This platform includes a FANUC CRX-5iA robot with Schunck Universal Gripper for part loading and unloading, a Pro Ultrasonics Cleaning Tank for part sanitization, MiJet Drying System for part blow off and Trumpf TruMark 6030 laser with VisionLine for part identification.
According to the company, advantages of the SS20MH-III-5AX include:
- Simultaneous five-axis contour capability
- B-axis tool spindle with 30 tool carousel
- Sub-side Y-axis with six live tool positions for overlap operations
- Automatic tool presetter and scale feedback as standard
- FANUC 31i-B5 plus CNC control
- High-rigidity bed can enable high-speed, high-accuracy performance
- Compact footprint of 98.43″ × 75.00″ × 75.59″
Tsugami America is also introducing the Tsugami VA3S, a high-speed universal vertical machining center featuring 1.1 second tool-to-tool changes using a 21-position carousel with a servo drive tool magazine. These toolchange times, along with the 20,000-rpm spindle, are said to make this platform well suited for rapid facing, drilling and tapping.
Weighing in at nearly 6,000 lbs, this VMC is built with solid base casting, which can provide high accuracy and rigidity. A large double sliding door enables simple operator access to the 25.98″ × 15.75″ table, capable of handling materials up to 551 lbs.
Equipped with Tsugami Eco System, the VA3S enables the user to view and manage power consumption over time while running production. Led by Tsugami’s green initiative, Eco System can enable users to make energy-conscious decisions about their manufacturing processes while remaining cost effective. The VA3S is intended for manufacturers in firearms, medical, tool and die, general industries and beyond.
According to the company, features of the Tsugami VA3S include:
• Portable manual pulse generator as standard
• FANUC0i-MF plus CNC control
• High-rigidity bed can enable high-speed, high-accuracy performance
• Compact footprint of 59.05″ × 91.42″ × 101.77″
