Leaders-In background

Targeted for medical, dental and small automotive parts manufacturers, the FZ08KS tilt VMC from Chiron America incorporates a swivel head spindle for single setup machining of complex parts. It has a swiveling range of -20 degrees to +115 degrees, and it takes 0.5 seconds to swivel from 0 degrees to 90 degrees.

Applications for which the six-axis machining center is suited include orthopedic devices and surgical instruments made of specialized plastics, titanium and steel; dental heads and implants; automotive turbo charger impellers and aluminum housings; and watch parts. With the NC swivel head, users can produce milled surfaces and holes at virtually every angular position, including outer/inner contours and tapping. The company has extended the range of application possibilities by including an NC linear unit with an NC vertical turning device. According to the company, complex workpieces can be machined in one setup, without operator intervention. The XYZ axis travel range is 18" × 10.6" × 11".

This machine also features a toolchanger with a tool-to-tool change time of 0.8 seconds; a chip-to-chip time of 1.9 seconds; rapid feed rates as high as 3,000 ipm; acceleration rates up to 2 G; and spindle speeds as fast as 40,000 rpm.
