The Leine & Linde PSE and PHE 900 series of rotary encoders, available from Heidenhain, are designed for heavy-duty applications and are now available with an EtherCAT interface option. The series of solid- and hollow-shaft absolute rotary encoders is said to be capable of operating in situations where high temperatures, moisture, vibration or shock are present.
The EtherCAT option on these rotary encoders provides angular position value on the machine. In addition, signal processing capabilities can deliver velocity, acceleration, alarms and warnings to the control system, providing multi-variable feedback for sophisticated control algorithms with cycle times as short as 31.25 msec.
