The DEM 320 A CNC EDM from Knuth features a low-maintenance modular construction. The extra rigid cast-iron frame is designed with stress-free annealing in a T design. The machine features THK precision linear guides on all axes, and preloaded ballscrews for mechanical precision. A PC-based control system with servo drives is fine-tuned to the manufacturing process requirements, the company says.
The two-directional wire guide system enables accurate wire feed even with workpieces with large tapers or heights. The 4BLS system is said to simplify machining of workpieces with tapers ranging to ±30 degrees. The machine can accommodate workpieces measuring as large as 22" x 14" x 12" and weighing as much as 1,100 lbs. The EDM is equipped with CAD/CAM software, erosion wire measuring 0.007", a handheld control, RS-232 interface and operating tools.
