AIMS Metrology offers its Revolution LM-series coordinate measurement machine (CMM), which it claims is the first linear motor-driven CMM with five-axis measurement capabilities. The CMM combines a robust frame with the Renishaw Revo scanning system to provide submicron accuracy suitable to applications in the automotive, aerospace and medical markets.
The company says the CMM promotes less downtime and lower cost of ownership. Replacing conventional belts and pulleys, the LM’s linear motors are said to make for a laboratory-grade CMM that requires virtually no maintenance and hence cuts on downtime.
Further contributing to efficiency, Renishaw’s five-axis probe technology can scan as much as five times faster than conventional touch probes, AIMS says. The LM-series CMM incorporates a granite workplate and an aluminum mobile bridge. These features are said to provide higher rigidity, lower inertia, and better accuracy and repeatability. These features provide higher accuracy and repeatability. A large Z-axis ram, also made of aluminum, offers the flexibility to support a variety of motorized probe heads. The margin of error or hysteresis is minimized because the LM’s steel optical scales float in an aluminum carrier.
The LM is equipped with Renishaw’s Modus software and supported by comprehensive aftermarket services.
