Kurt Workholding is expanding its five-axis workholding lineup with a range of products, including three vise models, manual quick-release pallets and pneumatic pallets with 96-mm zero-point docking. Vise models feature three snap-on, snap-off jaw options, simple adjustment options and pull studs for automated pick and place.

PFW420, PFW440 and PFW460 models dock on the Kurt 96-mm pallets and other compatible 96-mm systems. 4″ quick-change jaws and zero-point mounting can speed machine setup and job changeover. Jaws can be changed while the vise is mounted in a machine or — with the Kurt zero-point pallet system — removed and replaced with the turn of a hex bolt, push of a button or with pneumatic actuation. Like the smaller Kurt PF Series five-axis vises, the PFW Series features serrated, dovetailed or machinable jaw options.

Designed to be an asset for small shops or scalable for large enterprise applications, the five-axis ecosystem can enable a shop to make a minimal initial investment and add more Kurt vises and pallets as needed. Zero-point mounting with a common pull stud pattern across the Kurt lineup is said to enable ongoing product compatibility.

In addition to the five-axis vise models, Kurt is introducing a range of zero-point pallets. Designed as a comprehensive mounting system for the five-axis vise models, six pallet options are available including: three manual pallet sizes with a 96-mm pattern and one with a 52-mm pattern, one quick-release manual pallet with a 96-mm pattern that locks and releases vises with a single button push and a pneumatic pallet.

The pneumatic pallet is intended to offer Kurt customers an automated zero-point mounting system that can be configured for remote control by an operator or fully automated using a machine tool controller, robot or PLC.

Jeff Lenz, executive vice president, proprietary products, Kurt Manufacturing, says, “The new zero-point lineup allows customers to mix and match pallets and vises for quick setups and more flexibility. We’re also bringing 96-mm mounting to more traditional machining vises like the DX6 so that this system will work across multiple machine applications.”
