View MoreA series of jaw force gages from Dillon Manufacturing enable users to accurately measure the force applied to each chuck jaw independently, so that problems can be diagnosed and corrected before a failure occurs. While poorly gripped parts can be dislodged by tool pressure, resulting in production losses and an unsafe operation, the jaw force gage can cut production losses by verifying rated jaw force and identifying potential safety hazards as part of a maintenance schedule, the company says. Providing a force range from 0 to 30,000 lbs, these gages are ideal for chucks ranging from 6" to 18".
A jaw force gage can be used to take measurements and compare results to determine, for example, if the chuck does not meet established jaw force ratings before applying lubrication or adjusting the drawbar. It can also help to identify if internal chuck parts are worn or broken, or whether the chuck jaws need disassembly and cleaning because they are not reaching full travel. For air or hydraulic chucks, the gage can help users to determine if the actuator needs adjustment to correct a leakage or bypass, or if the line pressure needs adjustment.
