OKK’s HMC400 horizontal machining center is designed for high-speed machining with a lightweight column featuring a rigid, stepped-X-axis rail design. The machining center achieves a rapid feed rate of 63 m/min. (2,480 ipm) with acceleration of 1G (XYZ).
The HMC is equipped with an automatic pallet changer and automatic toolchanger. It accepts tools ranging to 450 mm in length to enable deep-boring operations without rotating the pallet. According to the company, the high-torque 15K Big Plus spindle reaches speeds of 15,000 rpm in 1.7 sec. with 50 hp for faster machining of tough materials, including 1018 steel. The distance from the spindle nose to the pallet center is 50 mm. A large bearing in the B axis of the built-in rotary table and the multi-clamp pallet system help to ensure rigidity.
The HMC is equipped with 1,000-psi through-spindle coolant with a 5-micron bag filter which can be easily replaced without interrupting the cycle. Virtually all maintenance controls and gages are located in the front of the machine for convenient daily inspection, the company says. The machining center is also equipped with a low-profile chip conveyor designed to occupy less space behind the machine.
