According to Okamoto Corp., surface grinding the mating portions of a mold is a fundamental step for a high level of accuracy and smooth, flat surface finish. The ACC-SA1 series MDI-controlled, saddle-type surface and ACC-32·80CHiQ surface double column grinder, in particular, are said to be well suited for shops.
ACC-32·80CHiQ is designed for high-precision grinding of large components —including molds 40" x 40" and up — to meet demanding mold and die base applications. Its ultra-rigid double column design and construction stands up to prolonged heavy-duty grinding conditions, Okamoto says, and its Double-V Way construction provides continued peak accuracy. It is also said to enable a consistent high degree of flatness across the entire workpiece surface.
Exclusive Okamoto iQ Software is said to simplify data input. Auto dress with compensation for unattended grinding and shift plunge for faster material removal rates are additional features. Table size is 32" x 80", with a maximum pass width of 40" and maximum distance under standard wheel of 23.5". Larger capacity models are available.
Similarly, the ACC-SA1 series is said to be the number one machine for everyday mold grinding. The high-precision, highly rigid machine is available in available in capacities from 8" x 20" to 20" x 40". All feature heavy-ribbed Meehanite cast iron construction, robust column assemblies and premium grade components, with a table that is said to support the entire grinding stroke with no overhang or deflection.
The wheelhouse assembly with a maintenance-free spindle is said to stand up to heavy grinding loads and delivers super fine finishes, while a standard spindle inverter provides variable wheel speed for enhanced grinding flexibility when grinding varied materials. It also features a standard programmable dress with dress compensation, and an AC servo-driven vertical feed boasts a 0.00001" minimum downfeed increment, the company says.
