Leaders-In background

Offered by United Grinding Technologies, Inc. (UGT), the Blohm Profimat MC is a production profile grinding system for creep-feed applications. It is a traveling-column machine capable of multi-axis grinding in a 2,000 mm-wide footprint.

The new machine is available with an integrated ATC that can switch wheels in 8 seconds using a swing arm configuration. Maximum tool dimensions are 300 mm × 60 mm × 76.2 mm, with a toolchanger capacity of 20; 10 for wheel diameters smaller than 190 mm, and six for wheel diameters as large as 280 mm. A HSK-80 wheel flange system offers the rigidity needed for close tolerance parts with high surface finish requirements, the company says. Tool options include vitrified CBN, plated CBN, conventional grinding wheels and various other metal cutting options.

Linear guideways in all axes consist of six-row ball and four-row roller bearing systems to provide accurate positioning. The work area is entirely enclosed to contain high-pressure coolant.

All four MC models feature a grinding range/table clamping area of 700 mm × 400 mm × 600 mm and a grinding wheel size of 400 mm × 100 mm × 127 mm (smaller for CBN). An optional wheel size of 500 mm × 220 mm × 127 mm is also offered. The 60-kW variable speed main spindle can achieve speeds as high as 8,000 rpm.
