Big Daishowa has added two upgrades to its Base Master series of precision touch sensors, including an LED indicator and a side handle for maneuverability. These measuring devices are used to determine workpiece offsets and tool length.

The first upgrade spans the series lineup and replaces a single LED indicator with a 360-degree light, making it easy for operators to see contact from any orientation, the company says.

The second upgrade is to the Base Master Mini which is now available with a side handle that is said to make it easier for users to negotiate limited-access lathes. According to the company, the Mini’s compact design makes it fast and easy to use while also providing accurate results. With a standard height of only 20 mm (0.787”), the Mini is said to be well suited for small Swiss lathes and tight spaces.

The Base Master series can be used with all types of machines and materials, including nonconductive cutting tools, workpieces and machine tools. It is said users can quickly measure workpiece offsets, tool lengths and cutting edges with zero risk of damage or breakage at submillimeter levels when needed. For maximum flexibility, these measuring devices are designed to offer tight repeatability of ±0.001 mm and solid magnetic bases that mount vertically, horizontally or at any angle.
