4D Technology Automated Metrology System Enables High-Speed Feature Inspection
IMTS 2024: The 4Di InSpec automated metrology system is designed to improvethroughput and reduce inspection costs.
4D Technology’s 4Di InSpec automated metrology system (AMS) is a high-throughput, high-resolution defect and feature inspection solution. The automated system can measure hundreds of edge break features, chamfers and radii in minutes, improving throughput and reducing inspection costs.
The system consists of a non-contact 4D InSpec or 4D InSpec XL surface gage, integrated with a choice of cobots, optional rotary table and a safety cell for rapid production inspection.
The 4Di InSpec optical sensor leverages 4D Technology’s specialized non-contact, vibration-immune technology that enables 3D optical measurements right on the shop floor. The 4Di InSpec sensor is particularly well-suited for robotic automation because the optical sensor is immune to vibration, so it can minimize settling time between robot movements. This novel technology also enables in-situ measurements in the milling, grinding and polishing processes, and even multi-sensor automated applications. Multi-sensor, automated systems are the next step to delivering increased value, where one robot, with dual sensors, can measure surface roughness, surface features and defect inspection all in one system, greatly increasing efficiencies.
Highlights of the 4Di Automated Metrology System include:
- Non-contact, 3D measurement with micrometer-level resolution
- The ability to measure features such as edge break, chamfers and radii, and defects such as pits, dings, scratches and corrosion
- Vibration-immune technology enables measurement on the shop floor
- High-resolution precision
- The ability to measure small components, large, complex geometries and difficult-to-reach locations
- Automatic re-measure of out-of-spec locations
- Optional safety features such as fully enclosed cell, light curtains and two-hand safety control relays
- Password-protected production mode.
