Leaders-In background

Four manufacturing organizations—DMG Mori Seiki, ITAMCO, Mazak and Okuma—have pledged to support the MTConnect Challenge 2 by offering access to data generated by their equipment to help participants create manufacturing intelligence applications. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense – Defense-Wide Manufacturing Science and Technology (DMS&T) ManTech program, the second MTConnect Challenge seeks software applications that use data acquired through the MTConnect standard. The use of real-time data from manufacturing equipment is expected to open the challenge to more developers and accelerate software development.

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NDCMM), AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology and the United States Army are overseeing the challenge. The contest opened on July 1, 2013, and will close on January 31, 2014. Winners will be announced at the [MC]2 Connect 2014 conference to be held April 8-10, in Orlando, Fla.
