Robot Machining Unit

A robot-based machine tool provides a simple and flexible option for certain machining applications.

German contract manufacturer Toolcraft helped to develop this particularly flexible machining solution: the “RoboBox” unit, which consists of a six-axis Stäubli robot wielding a 7.5 kW milling spindle over a stable clamping surface inside of an enclosure. The resulting machine tool certainly cannot take the place of a machining center for precision milling of hard metal parts, but it can effectively machine complex parts in soft materials such as plastic. The machine could also be used as a solution for quickly performing complex deburring routines.

The RoboBox is programmed using Robotmaster software.

Machining with robots is one of the themes we saw at the latest EMO show.
