Snapshots from SIMTOS

Big machines were a big part of the 2010 Seoul International Machine Tool Show in South Korea.

In April, I got my second chance to attend SIMTOS—the Seoul International Machine Tool Show—in South Korea. The last time I was at this biennial event was in 2004. The obvious difference between then and now is that the 2010 edition displayed the bigger number of large-scale machine tools. Machine tool builders including Hyundai-Wia, Doosan, Hankook and Hwacheon highlighted equipment such as boring mills, vertical turning centers and multitasking machines engineered to machine sizeable parts for wind power, nuclear and aerospace applications.

This slideshow offers a glimpse of what the major Korean machine tool builders had on display at SIMTOS 2010. And I’m guessing you’ll see similar machines this September at IMTS in Chicago.
