Sharp Industries’ KMA-5H large-size vertical-bed-type milling machine is designed to increase efficiency and accuracy on large workpieces with X-, Y- and Z-axis travels  measuring 98" × 31.5" × 27.5". The mill’s oversize 106" × 30" table has extra outboard support in addition to a wide machine base, offering more stability in heavy milling and boring applications. Major castings are made from honeycomb ribbed castings for maximum vibration damping. In addition, all box ways are hardened and ground to maintain durability during heavy-duty machining. All three axes are equipped with a pneumatic lock device and electronic hand wheel (MPG) to ease movement of the large table and heads.

The milling machine is equipped with a servo-driven, 20-hp vertical head to enable variable-speed vertical travel. A separate servo-driven horizontal head mounted at the side of the column moves up and down with a range of 27.5" for variable-speed horizontal travel. The spindle is equipped with a high-low gear and high-power frequency drive inverter to deliver high torque with variable speed change. The 7.5-hp spindle motor and #50 taper enable vertical and horizontal boring or milling operations to be performed in one setup.
