View MoreAmong Chiron America’s new productivity options for its Mill 800 VMCs are new milling from bar; new turning from bar; a high-capacity toolchanger; a ±100-degree swivel head; and a trunnion table for four- and five-axis machining.
The milling from bar option employs a 100-mm through-hole to feed bar stock to an indexer for five-sided machining. When the five sides have been completed, the part is then picked off the indexer and the sixth side is finished.
The same sequence applies to turning from bar. However, instead of an indexer, the part is fed to a 5,000-rpm turning spindle. Stock with diameters as large as 2.5” (65 mm) can be accommodated when turning from bar.
An optional swivel head with 100 degrees of movement (clockwise or counter clockwise) facilitates one-setup machining. It requires 0.5 second to swivel from 0 to 90 degrees. Complex parts can be machined horizontally as well as vertically. This device is can be useful for parts with numerous compound angles.
