View MoreVomat GmbH is a filter manufacturer based out of Treuen, Germany, focused on high-performance filtration technology. In order to grind precision tools with high accuracy, tool manufacturers must possess up-to-date technology and optimally coordinate all parameters involved, including grinding, measuring and coating technology. Ultrafine filtration of the cooling lubricants within the overall machining system plays a key role here, Vomat notes.

Clean coolants have a significant influence on the quality of the ground tools, and finely filtered grinding oils that remain in the system for a long time contribute to considerable cost savings in production. Metal abrasion, dirt and decomposition products can cause grinding contamination, making it necessary to replace oils and lubricants at short intervals.
The choice of the right coolant depends on the respective process factors. Thanks to special combinations of active ingredients, tool manufacturers can use coolants that are precisely tailored to their machining applications from Vomat.
Steven Lowery, executive VP from Oelheld, the official reseller of Vomat Filtration Systems in North America says, "The decision for the right filter system when grinding carbide metal and high-speed steels (HSS) or as a blending option is an important prerequisite for quality and efficiency of the entire value chain. After all, contemporary ultra-fine filtration technology really exploits the possibilities of advanced cooling lubricants."
Because of special design features, Vomat filters are capable of filtering even the latest cooling lubricants generations reliably and cost-efficiently, according to the company. Thanks to high-performance pre-coat filters, Vomat reports the full-flow filtration provides 100 percent separation of dirty and clean oil. As a result, the system permanently supplies clean oil in NAS 7 quality (3-5 µm) to the grinding system.
Another advantage is the energy efficiency of the Vomat technology; Vomat systems filter and flush according to demand. This means that the backwash cycles are controlled depending on the degree of contamination of the filter elements.
In addition to these benefits, the company says Vomat systems are designed to add as little heat as possible to the media, which in turn requires less cooling power.
Since every tool grinder has its own workflows and processes, Vomat offers a wide range of options on the standard platform of the FA machine series; this service makes it possible to optimize the integration of filtration technology to respective individual circumstances. The spectrum ranges from small stand-alone systems to large-scale industrial central systems.
Lowery adds that Vomat’s technology “can virtually grow with customer needs thanks to its flexibility, including a wide range of optional add-on and expansion modules."
