Tornos Introduces Larger-Capacity Version of SwissNano

Tornos now offers a larger-capacity 7-mm SwissNano model for precision turning, drilling, cutting, deburring, roughing and finishing operations. While the 4-mm bar capacity of the original SwissNano allowed entry into markets such as micromechanics, electronics and medical, the 7-mm machine now enables access into new markets for specialists who want to machine larger-diameter parts.
“The idea was to offer a machine with a similar design that exhibits the same top performance. Against this backdrop, our engineers have paid particular attention to the machine stability,” says Philippe Charles, head of product management for Swiss-types. While only slightly larger than the standard model, the machine still has the smallest footprint of the market in its category, according to the company, providing ergonomics, high thermal stability and precision.
With this larger machine, workpiece capacity has increased from 4-mm diameter and 28-mm length to 7-mm diameter and 50-mm length. Spindle output has also increased from 1 kW to 2.5 kW, and the number of standard tools from 13 to 18. In addition, this machine can be equipped with supplementary machining functions such as thread whirling for main machining operations as well as gear hobbing, polygon milling or cross drilling for back machining operations. To promote efficiency, the part collection system is offered in different versions and can be selected depending on the length of the parts produced; it can be swapped in just a few moments during setup, the company says.
