Offered by Big Kaiser Precision Tooling, the Big Plus toolholder system has been engineered for turning operations on Mazak’s Integrex and Integrex “e”-series multitasking machines.
The Integrex “e” series machines are equipped with Big Plus CAT 40 and CAT 50 taper spindle systems. The new system offers simultaneous dual contact between the machine spindle face and the toolholder flange face, and the machine spindle taper and toolholder taper shank. The contact provided by the system can thus increase the tool rigidity, which, according to the company, is crucial for the turning operations that multitasking machines are capable of performing.
Developed for sole use on the Integrex “e” series, the system features stationary toolholders with drive keys according to Mazak tolerances. The taper and flange contact spindle system offers a modular tooling system for mill-turning applications, in either a 45-degree tilt style or a 90-degree right-angle style. Also included are various rotary toolholders and a complete MTC tooling system—a range of toolholders for milling, drilling, tapping, reaming and boring.
According to the company, simultaneous spindle and flange contact enhances rigidity and repeatability, in turn yielding improvements in metal removal rates, accuracy, surface finish and tooling life. This can also potentially reduce vibration to prevent fretting corrosion; reduce axial movement during high speed operation; and resist cutter deflection, improving accuracy and finish.
