Schunk’s Prismo holder for automated tool and cutter grinding is designed to clamp diameters ranging from 5 to 20 mm without additional components or change-overs. Repeat accuracy is less than 0.005 mm. The toolholder is suited for automated manufacturing of small batch sizes of a variety of cutting tools.

Each of the five chuck jaws on the toolholder is guided by a double prism, and a third prism on the clamping face directly contacts the tool shank. Unlike conventional solutions in which the clamping bore is cylindrically ground, this toolholder is designed to adjust itself to the individual tool diameter.According to the company, deep hole drills and fluted tools can be clamped precisely when the five hardened and coated chuck jaws intermesh. The basic sleeve and design are said to increase the holder's rigidity.

Regardless of which tool diameter is to be machined, the X axis of the toolholder remains unchanged, and the chuck jaws actuate on the identical axial position. This eliminates additional programming and interference due to incorrect axis offsets.
