Schunk's Tribos-Mini directly clamps small tool shanks consistently along the entire axis for challenging applications including medical, dental and micro-level parts. The toolholder is said to eliminate collets, collet nuts and inconsistent tool clamping.

With a run-out accuracy of less than 3 microns and a balance grade of G2.5 at 25,000 rpm, high rpms and fast feed rates are achievable. The Tribos uses a polygon form in the clamping bore to generate clamping while provided elasticity in the toolhodler material. Cutting tool clamping results are simplified without the influence of an operator. The holder is inserted into the press and the cutting tool is released in less than 30 sec.

Manual mounting and changing of tools in Tribos-Mini toolholders and Tribos-Mini extensions is efficient, and the new SVP-Mini clamping device enables Schunk-Minis to be clamped simply for micromachining as far as the back stop, saving time and significantly reducing set-up costs, the company states. The compact clamping device is distinguished by its simple handling and covers the entire Tribos-Mini range (D2-dimension 9 mm) without any additional reduction inserts.
