Mahr Federal’s latest version of its Pocket Surf portable surface finish gage includes updated electronics and additional features. The gage is capable of displaying measurement results of Ra, Rz or Rmax, and a new feature on the Pocket Surf IV gage enables displaying each of these values with only one measurement stroke. Calibration has also been simplified with a single-button calibration process that is fast and secure, and does not require additional tools, the company says. The gage features Mahr’s MarConnect universal interface which enables USB, RS-232 or Digimatic output of data. When used with MarCom software, data can easily be transferred into Microsoft Excel or any Microsoft application.

The surface finish gage also retains features of its predecessors, including four switchable probe positions at 90, 180 or 270 degrees or axial (folded); an easy-to-read LCD readout of the measured roughness value in microinches or micrometers; out-of-range and “battery low” signals; and selectable traverse lengths of one, three or five cut-offs of 0.8 mm (0.030"). The gage offers a durable cast aluminum housing and operates in any position including horizontal, vertical or upside down. It is available in two configurations with either a 10- or 5-micron radius tip on the standard general-purpose probe.
