Sumitomo Expands Steel Turning Grade Series
Sumitomo’s new AC8020P turning grade features increased strength of the alumina layer, which enhances chip control and chipping resistance, as well as improves wear visibility.
Sumitomo’s new AC8020P turning grade is designed to machine medium carbon and high carbon steel (alloy steel, 1053, 4140, 4137 and bearing steel 52100), as well as hard steel (~1030). Sumitomo says the new AC8020P grade was designed to compliment its existing AC8000P Series grades (AC8015P, AC8025P and AC8035P).
The new grade features increased strength of the alumina (Al2O3) layer, which Sumitomo claims enhances chip control and showcases the golden surface color for improved wear visibility. AC8020P has reportedly shown results of more than 2.5 times chipping resistance compared to conventional grades. Sumitomo recommends the EGU chipbreaker for increased cutting speeds. For applications that require increased feed rates, Sumitomo recommends the EGE chipbreaker.
Sumitomo’s full lineup of the AC8000P steel turning grades series includes the AC8015P (high speed grade) in light silver, AC8020P (high efficiency) in gold, AC8025P (general purpose) in bright polish and AC8035P (interrupted machining) in dull silver.
