SmartCAM V15.5 from SmartCAMcnc is said to deliver a variety of enhancements and capabilities to the SmartCAM suite of CAM system software. Updates include usability improvements such as verification control and new nesting options. It also adds to the visualization and usability themes found in recent releases. The product family includes CAM software applications for milling, turning, fabrication and wire EDM.
New Showpath, ShowCut and Code options allow visual verification and coding to be restricted to the active step or group. This feature is suitable for developing tool paths for a specific operation and verifying only that portion.
New nesting capabilities have been introduced into the milling applications. When combined with existing nesting features, these capabilities are said to enable milling users to quickly and easily create sheet layouts for applications using equipment such as routers, lasers, burners and waterjets.
The lead-in/lead-out functionality is available for bidirectional profile processing and is typically used for groove finishing and undercut features that require bidirectional motion. The update adds options for creating lead-ins/lead-outs using an absolute angle. Absolute angles make it easy to enter or retract along a particular axis, regardless of the profile start and end orientations, the company says. In the case of turning, absolute angles can be used to ensure the tool enters and retracts along the tool bisector angle.
