Open Mind Technologies’ hyperMill 2012 for SolidWorks enables integration of continuous processes from the drawing to the machine. CAD and CAM systems work with the same data model and draw on a common data foundation to eliminate data loss between steps. The integration of the two systems means that users do not have to leave the SolidWorks interface.

Automated programming options are available for rectangular pockets, and optimized 3D roughing and five-axis strategies are available for applications such as machining impellers and blisks. The entry ramp can be moved continuously in one direction during 3D pocket milling. The pocket is then cleared from the outside in, optimizing the tool path and avoiding zig-zag movements.

The software is said to reduce manufacturing times due to added machining strategies, and to accelerate toolpath calculations during program generations. For example, an axial sorting option divides machining into zones, so that corners or pockets can be machined individually, one after another. The user can decide whether to process the geometries with axial sorting or to use an offset-level approach.
