Iscar’s Tangmill ID5 PCD wiper insert and two Helimill inserts, which are tipped with IB85 PCBN, are suited for machining cast iron and a range of difficult-to-machine materials at high cutting rates.

The LNAR 1106PN-R-S-W ID5 PCD-tipped wiper insert is designed with a large frontal radius and sharp cutting edge. According to the company, it provides a uniform, clean-cut edge and surface finish of less than Ra 0.3 μm. The insert can be used on standard face mills or axially adjustable face mills with one or two wiper inserts.

The ADKW 1505 PDER IB85 insert has an IB85 PCBN-brazed tip and can be used on 90-degree milling cutters for semi-finishing and finish machining on cast iron. The insert features a 0.031" corner radius and a 0.001" honed cutting edge. It can be used on the standard F90AD...-SFR or the E90AD ...-HSK63-S axially adjustable milling cutters. Adjusting the axial position of the inserts can enable users to achieve surface finishes ranging from 0.3 to 0.7-μm.

IB85 is a fine-grain, polycrystalline, cubic boron nitride grade. The small grain size enables grinding of a sharp cutting edge and achieving high surface quality, which provides increased tool life. The grade contains 85-percent PCBN with Al Co and W binder. The strong, tough material can be used for heavy roughing and interrupted cuts. The grade covers a range of materials including hardened and cast steel harder than 45 HRc, grey and nodular cast iron, powder-compacted and sintered metals, and heat-resistant alloys.
