When accuracy is critical, the ability to measure dimensional geometries to the highest degree is the key to ensuring quality. FARO Technologies says its 3D measurement equipment, Quantum Max ScanArms, which is highlighted at its IMTS 2022 booth, is an ideal noncontact solution.
By gathering comprehensive point cloud data and turning that data into 3D models, operators using the Quantam Max ScanArms are said to be able to detect the most minute nonconformities. This data can also be used to reverse-engineer first-article products to build a better, more accurate mold, the company adds, or create one where none exists, resulting is a more efficient, faster process that reduces errors and costly rework while meeting strict guidelines and certifications.
Quantum Max ScanArms’ key feature for this industry is the improved ability to scan challenging surfaces. The accuracy of the Quantum Max ScanArms, with interchangeable laser line probes (LLPs), enables quick and detailed data collection for a variety of small- and medium-sized measurement needs. Each LLP is enhanced with FARO CLR (Continuous Light Rectification) technology, which is said to provide users the highest quality scan data on dark, translucent and reflective surfaces, eliminating the need for sprays, time-consuming surface preparation and cleanup while avoiding finished product contamination.
Moreover, the measurement equipment’s more efficient, less wasteful inspection process reportedly ensures the CAD-to-part comparison inspections of a mold are performed quickly, enhancing productivity by more than 30%. Paired with FARO’s exclusive eight-axis Max Rotary Worktable, users can also triple their scanning speed and measurement volume.
