FANUC America’s Power Motion i-Model A motion controller for high-performance, multi-axis, general motion applications supports as many as 32 axes. The integrated controller is combined with high-speed programmable logic controllers (PLCs) supporting as many as 2,048 input and 2,048 output points. It is suitable for servo applications that replace hydraulic mechanisms and is said to reduce cycle time with a high-speed response function for quick axis start/stop. Applications include gantry loaders, multi-axis positioning systems, robotic positioning tables and more.

The controller offers multi-axis and multi-path functionality for 32 total control axes, which can be grouped in as many as four independent control paths, each with a maximum of 24 axes. Alternatively, as many as 16 axes can be individually controlled by the PLC. Flexible motion control of axes by position, speed, torque or pressure is possible.

The controller also features a variety of standard screens for setup, operation and maintenance as well as a motion path-programming system. Its motion-specific architecture provides reliability and performance with a lower total cost of ownership, the company says. Customizable display options are available for specific application needs, including integrated LCD screens, stand-alone solutions for multiple screens, and handheld displays for teaching or operations close to the application.

According to FANUC, the controller integrates quickly into production systems with a range of field network support. Embedded Ethernet enables communications with business and manufacturing systems as well as robots.
