Available from Marposs, Artis Systems’ Genior Modular process monitoring and control system is designed to increase process safety of machine tools without complex and tedious setting. The monitoring system enables reliable, error-free detection of process faults, the company says.

The system consists of a main module for connecting with the machine control’s Profibus system and a universal measuring transducer for use with various Artis sensors. The main module monitors the machine’s spindle and feed drives, while the Artis sensors measure conditions such as force-strain, acoustic emission, vibration and acceleration. The compact modules are said to make the system simple to install. Little adjustment is required for existing NC programs, and no special training is required.

The process monitoring and control system offers signal visualization that can be used selectively. Machine tool operators can detect process anomalies in the early stages and take appropriate countermeasures. The fully integrated visualization solution requires no additional hardware, such as PCs or displays, and can be used with CNCs such as the Sinumerik 840D sl (PCU and TCU) as well as alternative machine controls such as Fanuc.
