Leaders-In background

Mikron has developed a variety of drilling and milling tools designed for difficult-to-machine materials such as stainless steels, super alloys and chrome-cobalt alloys. The series was designed with cooling capabilities to avoid overheating the tool due to poor heat transfer ability and good chip evacuation, since these materials can create long chips and pasting. The tools are well suited for the medical, dental, aerospace and automotive industries.

The product offering includes the CrazyDrill Twicenter centering tool, designed for simultaneous centering of 60, 90 or 120 degrees in diameters ranging from 0.012" to 0.079" (0.3 to 6 mm); the CrazyDrill Pilot SST-Inox short drill for simultaneous centering of 90 degrees, in diameters ranging from 0.012" to 0.079" (0.3 to 6 mm) and depths to 3×D; the CrazyDrill Coolpilot short drill for simultaneous centering of 90 degrees in diameters ranging from 0.039" to 0.236" (1.0 to 6.0 mm) and depths to 3×D; the CrazyDrill SST-Inox high-performance drill with dimeters ranging from 0.012" to 0.079" (0.3 to 2.0 mm) and depths to 12×D; the CrazyuDrill Cool SST-Inox high-performance drill with diameters ranging from 0.039" to 0.236" (1.0 to 6.0 mm) and depths to 15×D; the DrazyDrill Flex SST-Inox micro-deep-hole drill, in dimeters ranging from 0.012" to 0.047" (0.3 to 1.2 mm) and depths to 50×D; and CrazyMill Cool end mills, which are available  as cylindrical, toric or full-radius mills, in diameters ranging from 0.012" to 0.315" (0.3 to 8 mm) in depths to 5×D.

All tools in the CrazyDrill and CrazyMill series have through-coolant. Depending on the diameter, this is integrated in the shaft starting at 0.012" (0.3 mm) or it can reach the tool tip through the interior of the tool, starting at 0.039" (1 mm).

The geometry of the tools is designed according the chip characteristics of the stainless materials. The chips are broken by the tool’s tip geometry, and the geometry of the flutes is said to promote swift and reliable chip evacuation.
