The SV-20 honing system for job shop part production features a true linear, vertical, servo-stroking system to produce precision bore geometries on such parts as compressors, oilfield components and automotive blocks. The system is equipped with a variable-speed, 4.1-kW (5.5-hp) spindle motor capable of speeds ranging from 15 to 550 rpm. The linear stroking system keeps the honing tool concentric with the bore throughout the full stroke length to produce a consistent diameter from top to bottom of the bore.
The machine’s work envelope measures 91.5 × 1,015 mm (36" × 40") and accommodates weights ranging to 680 kg (1,500 lbs). The machine can be used to hone bores with inside diameters ranging from 19 to 200 mm (0.75" to 8.00"). The PLC-controlled system features a color touchscreen and swiveling operator panel. A hand wheel enables left and right positioning of the column on the 760-mm X axis. A 208-L (55-gallon) coolant system with two standard canister filters is standard. The rotary servo tool feed system can be used with two-stage hone heads to complete roughing and finishing without stone changes. The machine is compatible with Sunnen’s tooling for its CK-, CV- and SV-series machines.
