Large-Capacity HMC Handles Tough Alloys in Efficient Configuration
Heller Machine Tools’ H 14000 large-capacity HMC is part of the four-axis H series horizontal machining centers.
Heller Machine Tools’ H 14000 large-capacity HMC is part of the four-axis H series horizontal machining centers. Its structural stiffness and high torque help it make deep cuts in tough steel and iron alloys. The machines in the H series are said to be well-suited for machining large pumps and housings for power and fluid transmission, maintaining XYZ positioning accuracies of 0.010 mm while providing feed forces of 20,000 N.
The H 14000 is the top of the H series, featuring an XYZ work area of 2,400 × 1,600 × 1,600 mm over a 1,000-mm pallet capable of handling a 4,000-kg workpiece load. Realistic dynamic rates of 40 m/min. in all axes minimize positioning times.
With a high power cutting (HPC) gear-driven headstock, the machine offers maximum torque of 2,292 Nm and generates 60 kW of power at low rpm, with rigid face clamping options for right-angle milling heads. HSK 100 spindle taper is supplemented with a choice of chain-type tool magazines for tools up to 800 mm in length or rack-type magazines for tools as long as 1,000 mm. Consistent with efficient cell operation, H-series machines are designed for manual use or adaptation to FMS or other automated loading systems. Three chip augers rapidly move chips out of the work area and into the chip conveyor.
The machine’s precision is a result of reduced table deformation and internally arranged drives and linear scales. According to the company, this provides high productivity and minimal axial positioning time for reductions in overall machining time ranging from 20 to 50 percent in practical application. Technology options such as regenerative drive systems, reduced-power valves, and speed-regulated, high-pressure coolant pumps are designed to increase machine efficiency.
Heller’s numeric-controlled, out-facing head is available on the H 14000 for performing feed-out operations such as taper boring and pocket generation as well as diameter compensation. A measuring probe for on-machine part checking, and instant tool breakage monitoring are integrated.
