Okuma America Corporation announces the debut of the new Multus U5000. This two-saddle multitasking lathe is ideal for the energy and aerospace industries. It delivers precise, versatile machining from all directions for large workpieces. IMTS 2018 attendees can see this new powerhouse in person at both 338500. Equipped with a W axis and big-bore spindle, this machine will be shown cutting a wind turbine crankshaft.

Built with Okuma’s renowned heavy-duty construction, the Multus U5000 provides a sturdy platform for machining large, process-intensive parts, allowing it to serve as a complete multitasking solution for manufacturers big and small. This CNC machine tool offers the following features:

  • Flexible CNC machining from all directions: A highly rigid traveling column allows for powerful cutting along the entire Y-axis.
  • Extended specs for a variety of applications: Larger bed length, sub-spindle, and lower turret configurations can provide specific solutions to match application requirements.
  • Maximum milling or turning performance: The machine is ideal for highly efficient cutting of difficult-to-machine materials and a wide variety of CNC machining applications.
  • Thermo-Friendly Concept: This feature provides long-term, stable machining accuracy with structural design and thermal deformation control technology.
  • Shorter setup time and prevention of collisions: The OSP-P300SA control reduces keyboard operations by 50% and maximizes uptime with its Collision Avoidance System.
  • Machining Navi (optional): This Intelligent Technology maximizes tool performance by choosing the optimal speed(s) at which the machine can avoid chatter.
  • Operator-friendly design: The Multus U5000 is built to offer easy tool loading from the machine front, improved spindle access for faster setup times, and smooth chip discharge for better flows.

Throughout the manufacturing industry, Okuma has a reputation for superior craftsmanship and legendary reliability. The Multus U5000 continues Okuma’s impressive tradition of machining innovation. For more information, visit https://www.okuma.com/multus-u5000.
