View MoreMakino’s T4 five-axis HMC combines lean manufacturing methods with increased metal removal rates for aerospace applications. It is specifically designed for the production of large titanium and titanium alloy aerospace parts including edge frames, pylons and bulkheads. The machine features an active damping system, rigid construction for enhanced performance, a high-torque, high-powered spindle and a high-pressure, high-flow coolant system for increased speed and productivity.
The active damping system balances frictional forces with the cutting force to suppress vibrations, allowing deeper cuts, higher metal removal rates and reduced tool wear, the company says.
The rigid structure reduces cutting vibrations associated with titanium. The machine provides X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 165", 78" and 39" (4,200, 2,000 and 1,000 mm), respectively, and supports workpieces weighing as much as 11,022 lbs (5,000 kg).
