Northfield Precision Instrument Corporation offers a new chuck for finish-boring the spherical ID of plastic hip inserts. The self-contained vacuum chuck features custom insert plates that fit into a nest, which can be swiveled or tilted as much as 20 degrees to bore the IDs on a standard CNC lathe. There are only two moving components, which are hardened and ground.
Various models—through-hole, high speed and quick-change options—are offered, with accuracies ranging from 0.001" to 0.00001". Metric or SAE chucks, in sizes ranging from 3" (76 mm) to 18" (457 mm) are available.
