The Studer S40 universal cylindrical grinder from Advanced Machine & Engineering has a distance between centers of 63" and a swing of 14". The high-resolution, 0.0001-degree B axis has two wheelheads, and a C axis is available for form and thread grinding. During live grinding, roundness is accurate to 0.000016".
The machine base is made of Granitan, which has six to eight times better dampening properties than cast iron. According to the company, the base is not at risk of corrosion damage from coming into contact with cooling lubricants, cutting oil or detergents.
The machine can be used for OD grinding and thread grinding of spindle shafts. It offers increased precision and increased throughput because of added in-house capability, especially for thread grinding.
