Liebherr’s LC 100 gear hobbing machine is said to be capable of achieving chip-to-chip times of 3 sec. with its fast swivel loader. The machine is equipped with one worktable and offers setup flexibility with exchangeable quick-change gripper inserts that require no tools. Designed for machining small, mass-produced components, the hobbing machine is well-suited for conventional automatic gearbox applications such as planetary and sun gears. According to Liebherr, when paired with carbide tools measuring 20 to 30 mm in diameter with cutting speeds of more than 250 m/min., the machine is capable of hobbing speeds as fast as 3,000 to 4,000 rpm, reducing cycle times.
