Global Shop Solutions will introduce its Version Management System (VMS) 2.0 software for enterprise resource management, enabling access during production to current versions of spec sheets, drawings and other documents. The software is an add-on to the company's Document Control ERP module, which electronically attaches documents to jobs and work centers. The add-on provides updated document security features to promote access to current document versions for every job. Files are stored directly in the database, adding greater protection of document and data integrity. Additionally, multiple file versions can be stored simultaneously, creating a version history for each document and easing reference as well as version rollback to view historical changes. Check-in/check-out functionality prevents two users from changing a file at the same time for added security. Individual- and group-level permissions can further protect files, limiting document exposure with print and email security options.

The company says that the add-on improves efficiency and effectiveness of document management and avoids the time and expense of remakes necessitated by using wrong documentation to build parts. The software is available in the 2014.1 release of the company's One-System ERP software package.
