Siemens Drive Technologies Division’s Sinumerik 808D is an entry-level CNC for standard lathes and milling machines. The compact panel-based controller, which works with the Sinamics V60 drive system and Simotics 1FL5 servomotor, is said to provide simple commissioning as well as user convenience. It comes equipped with PLC inputs and outputs integrated in one device, simplifying wiring, and also connects with a plug-and-play USB port. The controller has ergonomically designed override rotary switches and a USB port on the front of the panel that accommodates memory sticks for transmitting programs and data.
The 808D uses the Sinumerik Operate Basic user interface that comes with a new dialog-based Sinumerik StartGuide assistant. This guides the user step by step through the machine setup process, minimizing time spend on commissioning, the company says. The StartupAssistant helps commission both prototype and series machines, while the OperationAssistant supports operating staff through the machine setup and programming process. The ProgramGuide Basic feature enables simple programming with the aid of graphically-supported cycle screens and a convenient contour calculator, the company says. Part programs created using other controllers that support ISO code can be reused, making it possible to alternate between DIN and ISO programming languages even within a single part program.
The controller is suitable for machines with one spindle and up to three axes. It calculates with an accuracy of 80-Bit-NanoFP to avoid internal rounding errors. The controller comes equipped with intelligent MDynamics path control with a look-ahead function. The ManualMachine plus (MM+) option smoothes the transition from conventional machine to CNC programming. A free PC software package enables offline workpiece programming and simulation.
