Enhancements to CAD/CAM Software

Mastercam X5’s 3D surface, high speed OptiRough toolpath technique is designed to remove large amounts of material quickly using its dynamic milling motion. Large, aggressive cuts are followed by fast, smaller up-cuts to quickly deliver a fully roughed part, the company says.

Hybrid finishing, another new technique, blends two cutting techniques in a single tool path. It evaluates the model shape and smoothly switches between constant Z cutting and constant scallop machining.

The multi-axis swuite features updated machining techniques and a workflow-oriented interface. The software enables users to choose the basic type of work using clear illustrations, and then gives a step-by-step process for defining how to cut the part. The multi-axis machining also includes a specialized interface for smooth, gouge-free engine head porting.

Dynamic milling constantly adjusts the tool path to ensure the most efficient cut possible and enables the entire tool flute length to be used, often eliminating the need for multiple depth cuts, the company says.

The company will also preview the 2011 release of Mastercam Swiss Expert.
