Leaders-In background

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ GE10A dry-cut hobbing machine is designed for mass production of small-diameter gears of the kind used in automotive transmission systems. The hobber accommodates gears with diameters ranging to 100 mm. Radial and axial travel speeds reach 20,000 mm/min. (787 ipm). For machining efficiency, the cutting length of the hob has been extended to 300 mm. Workpiece changing time is shortened by use of a high-speed loader, reducing idle time to 2 sec. Idle time is further reduced by features including a structure designed to ease simple setup changes without use of tools and optional 90-sec. automatic tool-change capability. The GE10A can be used with either Siemens or FANUC CNCs.
