The BK-1 Mini Presto Black room-temperature blackening system from Birchwood Technologies is designed for iron and steel. It is suitable for small production operations which require robust corrosion resistance and galling protection on critical surfaces. The process is appropriate for a variety of parts including machine components, metal stampings and more.

Compared to the hot oxide method, this shorter, 15-min. process is said to eliminate the hazards of hot oxide by operating at room temperature. It provides corrosion resistance tested for up to 800 hours of exposure to humidity when sealed with an appropriate rust preventive. The process produces a coating with a thickness of less than 0.5 micron. It is ideally suited for components requiring a black finish for visual appeal as well as rust protection.

The system contains seven tanks and covers, a hot plate (for heated cleaner), plus all the chemicals needed to operate a 5-gal. blackening line. This includes 1 gal. of Presto Black MKP, 1 gal. of Presto Black RPL, 5 gal. of Dri-Touch Plus IRP3 water-displacing sealant and easy-to-follow instructions.
