HyperGears’ software is designed to build 3D models of gear pairs, including cylindrical, bevel, skew-axis, worm and worm wheel, and non-circular gear pairs. The software uses fundamental mathematical relations that encompass the various gear types to design and manufacture the gear pairs. According to the company, the software can design gears with virtually any face width, gear ratio (linear and non-linear), number of teeth, shaft angle, spiral angle, shaft center distance and tooth profile.

The software can design spiral-bevel, hypoid and worm gears for angles not equal to 90 degrees using terms and concepts associated with spur and helical gears. Rating and manufacturing information is included to provide a preliminary assessment of each geometric design, and 3D graphical displays of the results include animation of the gear pair as well as cutters. Gear rating can be performed using either English or metric measurement systems.
