WOTM to Host Workshop on Quick-Response Manufacturing
QRM is a company-wide strategy for lead time reduction throughout the enterprise. It is said that focus on lead time can reduce both response times and costs and give companies a competitive edge in global markets.
On August 13, 2019, Women of Today’s Manufacturing (WOTM) is hosting a workshop on Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) titled “It’s About Time!: Increasing Your Manufacturing Competitive Advantage.”
Professor Rajan Suri, founding director of the Center for Quick Response Manufacturing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will present the workshop at Cliffbreakers Riverside in Rockford, Illinois. Dr. Suri is the author of four books on QRM. He is also an internationally acclaimed speaker and has received several awards for the development and implementation of QRM strategy in the United States.
QRM is defined as a company-wide strategy for lead time reduction. It is said that focus on lead time can reduce both response times and costs and give companies a competitive edge in global markets. QRM requires a management paradigm shift from cost-based to time-based decision-making.
Four concepts of QRM will be discussed throughout the workshop:
- “The Power of Time” will focus on why lead time is important and how it influences total operating cost, quality and on-time delivery.
- “Organizational Structure” will cover restructuring organizations to minimize lead time.
- “System Dynamics” will focus on how interactions between machines, people and product impact lead times and how, as a result, capacity planning, lot sizing and other policies need to be rethought.
- “Enterprise-Wide Application” will cover WRM implementation in office operations, engineering, material planning and control.
