Workshops for Warriors, a San Diego, California-based nonprofit, has received a matching grant for as much as $100,000 from the Gene Haas Foundation. The foundation will match all cash donations made to Workshops for Warriors in 2013 dollar for dollar up to the grant amount, for a potential total of $200,000. The funding will help Workshops for Warriors continue to offer certification courses in welding, machining and fabrication for military veterans at no cost to those veterans. Donors can contribute through PayPal on the Workshops for Warriors website.
The Gene Haas Foundation was named for and founded by Gene Haas of Haas Automation (Oxnard, California). In addition to funding provided by the foundation, Workshops for Warriors has also received material aid from the company. The nonprofit operates a full-service facility known as the Haas Technical Education Center where students can gain practical work experience in a real-world environment. Haas Automation recently entrusted four CNC machines to the education center for training, enabling the nonprofit to increase its class sizes.
