The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation has partnered with The Edge Factor, an HD series intended to change public perception of manufacturing and attract newcomers to the field. The foundation has also been named the community foundation for the Edge Factor. The organization says the partnership builds on its $5.2 million effort to transform manufacturing education and address the shortage of technical talent in the United States.

The reality show chronicles manufacturing innovation by highlighting real-world applications that demonstrate the industry’s behind-the-scenes role in everyday life.
The latest episode, Gnarly Metal, highlights how Straitline Components, a Canadian mountain bike manufacturer, uses machining technologies to support new bike designs.
